Guard Tronic was born in Fort Smith, AR in 1959 as Twin City Patrol. We were both an electronic (burglar and fire alarm systems) and physical security (guards and patrols) company. The name was changed to “Guard Tronic, Inc.” in the early 1960s as the company grew and began adding more employees.
Our first monitoring center was in a two-story home on 21st Street. The monitoring station was on the first floor, the central station manager and his family lived on the second floor, and the technicians worked out of the shop in the garage. Systems were monitored over leased lines from the phone company that were very expensive to get and maintain. Only the largest companies and richest homes had security systems that were monitored.
In the early 1970s, Guard Tronic gave up our patrol division when one of our responders was shot at by a burglar. The employee was unhurt, but his car wasn’t as lucky. We decided to concentrate on installing the most up-to-date electronic security systems in the river valley. We also began to realize that we would need to expand to other cities to keep up with the demand for electronic security services.
We moved to 9th street, a block off of Rogers Avenue, in the late 1960s, and remained there until we completed construction of our underground central station in 1988. Central station operators were safe and secure in our central station during the tornado of 1996, and watched it through our cameras system.
The City of Fort Smith acquired our building at 710 Carnall in 1997 through eminent domain, so we were forced to move our central station to our existing location….we hope our last. Our Fort Smith office also hosts our accounting department, sales, installation, service, and data entry departments. We have continued to grow and serve our clients in the Fort Smith area.
Technology has changed a great deal since 1959. Our commitment to providing the best security service has not.
