Most modern motion detectors detect a change in passive infrared energy.  If you’ve seen the 1987 classic Arnold Schwartznegger film, Predator, the alien’s vision is based on passive infrared (PIR).  Motion detectors are setup to detect heat within certain fields.  If the heat source (i.e. the burglar) moves between these fields, the motion detector will trip and set the alarm off if armed.

Any heat source that can move between these fields could generate an alarm.  While most motion detectors have false alarm reduction features built in, like pet immunity, manufacturers can’t predict every potential problem.

If you’re experiencing nuisance alarms from passive infrared (PIR) motion detectors, we may be able to help.
