Most insurance companies will offer a discount for having electronic security. Discounts will typically range from 10% for a burglar alarm system to 50% for a UL certificated system for a high security facility, like a bank or jewelry store.  Most homes and businesses will receive 20-25% off their premiums if a system includes burglary and fire.
As a system user, it is important to communicate changes in your system to your insurance carrier to ensure continued coverage.
A recent lawsuit was adjudicated when a fire alarm system user claimed a discount for having a monitored fire alarm system in accordance with their state’s codes and standards (Arizona). When the customer suffered a loss, the insurance underwriter denied the claim because there was no fire alarm system.
The court stated:
any provision of an insurance contract which has the effect of requiring, as a condition precedent of the taking effect
of such contract or as a condition precedent of the insurer’s liability thereunder,
the existence of a fact which tends to diminish,
or the non-existence of a fact which tends to increase, the risk of the occurrence of any loss, damage,
or injury within the coverage of the contract.
Guard Tronic has no way to know who our customers’ insurance company is, so we recommend that our customers advise their carriers when changes are made.  These changes may include changes to their call list, especially if the customer is requesting us make a verification call before dispatching the fire department, adding or removing equipment, or cancellation of service.
Requests for an Insurance Certificate may be made on our website:
