Access control in its simplest form is a lock and key. It keeps me from entering your home or business and you from entering mine. However, if you use a lock and key, there is no reporting of someone entering the building. It also gets very expensive very quickly. If an employee quits and you are unable to retrieve their key, you must now hire a locksmith to come re-key all the locks. How many people have the key to the local school or church gym?
Electronic access control provides the better security than a lock and key provides, with reporting of entrances, and usually much cheaper. No more re-keying locks each time an employee leaves, no more unreported duplication of keys. If an employee leaves, simply deprogram their credential. Cards, prox patches, biometrics, and smart phone apps (as keys) are all more secure, more cost effective solutions to keys.
Access control management can be done locally, through Entre` software, or you can use a cloud-based, browser solution. Adding / deleting credentials, opening doors, changing schedules, are all just an app away.
