Cellular and network communicators have become the industry standard. But many electronic security companies only offer one or the other. DIY and cable companies typically only offer network communicators, as they are typically providing internet to the home or business. Most do not even offer a cellular communicator as an add-on because of the additional expense.
Keep in mind: If your internet or television is out, so is your alarm systems’ ability to communicate.
Many traditional alarm companies only offer cellular communicators. They see these as superior to network communicators because they view the cellular infrastructure as being superior to the internet infrastructure.  They also believe that, since cell phone jammers are illegal in the US, their customers are safe having a single communication method.
